Respiratory Physician |
|
A respiratory physician cum intensivist will look after pre-operative issues such as preparing patients with severe sleep obstruction for surgery. He also needs to be a slick intensivist to help manage peri-operative problems that might arise. |

Plastic Surgeon |
|
Lapband patients may develop loose, hanging regions of skin once they have lost 30 or 40 kg of fat. It is the role of the plastic surgeon to help surgically trim these regions of tissue. Sometimes, liposuction, lipectomy or breast reduction are combined with the lapband procedure. |

Psychiatrist |
|
A small number of patients have conditions such as depression which need to be evaluated before they can undergo the lapband. Occasionally, patients have difficulties coping with restricted eating and develop depression following lapband. Other patients may have psychiatric eating disorders that require evaluation before embarking on lapband. |

|
Following gastric banding, total calorie intake drops drastically. The human body however detects this as starvation and decreases the metabolic rate to compensate. This can hinder weight loss. The only way to keep the metabolism active is exercise. Lapband patients must remain active following surgery and a good exercise regimen will ensure adequate activity without injuries. |
