Lapband © Surgeon - Dr. Baladas (MBBS Singapore 1988,
FRCS Edinburgh 1994) heads the Lapband © Team. He
trained in Bariatric and Upper GI surgery in
Australia and since returning to Singapore in 2000,
has performed over 300 lapbands, representing the
largest personal series in the region. He is also an
official Allergan-Inamed preceptoring surgeon for
the Lapband © System.
Endocrinologist - Dr. Stanley Liew, is an integral part of the team. He will work
to exclude hormonal causes of obesity and correct
them before surgery if nescessary.
Anaesthetist –
Dr. Chan Wen Yan. An anaesthetisiologist will have
to performs a large number of bariatric procedures
every year to become competent. Our anaesthetist is
trained in bariatric anaesthesia and has had an
overseas attachment for this purpose.
Clinical
Nutritionist – Dr. Nehal Kamdar. The dietician is an
integral part of the lapband© team and will see the
patients before and after surgery. Pre-operatively,
the dietician explains what to expect and the
satiety they will feel. Post-operatively, she will
help them in the early liquid and semi-solid phases
and then, the golden rules of eating. Dr. Nehal has
attended the ASBMS course in bariatric nutrition.
Physiotherapist - Following gastric banding, the
only way to keep the metabolism active is exercise. Lapband © patients must remain active following
surgery and a good exercise regimen will ensure
adequate activity without injuries.
Plastic Surgeon
- Lapband © patients may develop loose, hanging
regions of skin once they have lost 30 or 40 kg of
fat. It is the role of the plastic surgeon to help
surgically trim these regions of tissue. Sometimes,
liposuction, lipectomy or breast reduction are
combined with the lapband © procedure.
Psychiatrist -
A small number of patients have conditions such as
depression which need to be evaluated before they
can undergo the lapband ©. Occasionally, patients have
difficulties coping with restricted eating and
develop depression following lapband ©.
